Ash Barty, the world No. 1 tennis player, startled millions of fans and the tennis world when she announced her retirement from the sport.
To make the announcement, the 25-year-old uploaded an emotional six-minute video of a sit-down interview with close friend and former doubles partner Casey Dellacqua.

Barty says she lacks the “physical drive” and “emotional want” to continue the great tennis career she has built in the last few years since returning to the sport.
The three-time Grand Slam champion described herself as “physically tired” and decided it was time to “pursue new aspirations.”
“I said it to my team multiple times I don’t have it in me, I don’t have the physical drive, the emotional want, and kind of everything it takes to challenge yourself at the very top of the level anymore,” she said.
“I just know, I am spent, physically I have nothing more to give. That for me is a success, I’ve given absolutely everything I can to this beautiful sport of tennis.
“I’m really happy with that. For me, that is my success.”
