According to a witness, a five-year-old boy who was said to have been discharged from a public hospital before dying hours later had appeared to be “very, very sick.”
In the afternoon, Hiyaan Kapil died in Logan Hospital, having been initially released from the facility that day.
On Sunday afternoon, Kym Ousby, who was in the ER with her kid, saw Hiyaan as he departed the facility.
“We watched the little boy walkout. He was holding his mum’s hand,” she told 7NEWS.
“He looked very unwell. Even my nine-year-old daughter mentioned, ‘mummy, he looks very, very sick’.
I said, ‘yeah sweetie, I know’. “He looked very pale. He just looked very, very pale. You could tell in his eyes, he just looked very, very sick.”
While waiting for her daughter’s treatment, she reportedly heard screaming.
“We heard a nurse scream out, ‘we need a bed, we need a bed now’,” she said.
“She was holding that same boy. He was very floppy, he didn’t look very well.
“She just ran with him. His dad was behind him and his dad looked absolutely terrified.
“And then his mum wasn’t far behind and she went off with the nurse and her son.”
Hiyaan died several hours later. An investigation into Hiyaan’s treatment has been launched by the Health Department.
