When police moved in on a guy suspected of being a sexual predator and detained him in a carpark in Queensland, they discovered two young girls hiding out in the suspect’s vehicle.
On Sunday, the 58-year-old man was removed from his Toyota Landcruiser and placed under arrest in the parking lot of the Cairns DFO.
As part of Operation Uniform Kalahari, an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct with minors that lasted several months led to his arrest.
Since January of this year, the police in the Cairns area say that a 58-year-old man targeted at least eight young women between the ages of 11 and 16 and groomed, exploited, and sexually assaulted them.
In addition to this, it is alleged that he supplied the females with illegal substances such as cannabis and methylamphetamine.
More than a dozen crimes, including 11 counts of giving drugs to a kid under the age of 16, six counts of indecent treatment of a child under the age of 16, and one case of grooming, were levelled against him when he was arrested.
He was brought before the Cairns Magistrates Court, and bail to appear in court on August 3 was denied to him.
Investigators are looking into the possibility of further victims and are pleading with anyone who may have information to come forwards.
