Many couples today are deciding against having children because they are concerned that their offspring will have a difficult life and live in an unsafe world as a result of global warming.
The Australian Conservation and the Climate Change Organization 1 Million Women conducted a survey in which they polled thousands of women to gather information about their perspectives on the environmental shifts that are now taking place.
The study, which had 6500 participants, found that 33.4% of young women under 30 were worried about having children because of their anxiety for the future of the planet.
In response to a question, Felicity Lochhead indicated that she is really concerned about the influence that humans are having in connection with climate change.
“I have reached the point in my life where people are asking when my spouse and I are going to have children,” said. Ms. Lochead.
Ms. Lochhead and her husband Hayden said that they were trying to find a middle ground between their desire to start a family and the effects of global warming.
‘I am constantly learning about and focused on the damage we have done and continue to do. It is depressing,’ she said.
‘I am very, very apprehensive to have children, even though I feel like I could be a great mother… I don’t know what to do.’
