A father has passed away after being hit by a car in the eastern region of Victoria as he was assisting his son in changing a flat tyre.
An investigation has been opened into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was 55 years old and was found on the Princes Highway near Flynn, which is located between Traralgon and Rosedale.
Just before 8:20 in the morning, police reported that an oncoming vehicle struck a guy who was standing on the road next to his own vehicle.
He was pronounced dead on the spot.
According to Senior Sergeant Luke Banwell, the son received a flat tyre and then called his father for assistance.
“Whilst they’ve been attending to this puncture the father has been hit by another car passing beside and unfortunately he’s died,” he told ABC News.
“This will have ripple effects through the community, it’s the most tragic thing that can happen to a community, particularly when all the people are from that community.”
The male driver of the car, who was 23 years old, came to a stop right away.
“The driver of the vehicle is assisting us with our inquiries at the moment and is being treated for shock in hospital,” Senior Sergeant Banwell added.
During the course of the ongoing enquiry, detours are anticipated to be in place for a period of several hours.
