Network Ten has taken Lisa Wilkinson off the air since last week’s Logie speech after massive backlash on social media. They have also threatened to sue anyone for defamation in response to the negative press she has had.
During her acceptance for Outstanding News Coverage, Lise came under fire for talking about alleged rape victim Brittany Higgins, for which she received the Logie.
The official date for the rape trials was scheduled for next week but was later postponed until October as a result of Wilkinson’s Logie speech.
“The case has accordingly attracted a level of attention in the media … that while not unprecedented is certainly extreme,” the chief justice Lucy McCallum told the court.
“Extensive media reporting of alleged criminal conduct is not mischievous in itself.
“What is a potential mischief is media reporting of such issues in such a way … it impacts the criminal case.”
Lisa’s addressing has angered the public with many calling for her resignation.
Despite being scheduled to attend, Wilkinson was conspicuously absent from her Thursday night hosting position on Channel 10.
Wilkinson’s statement prejudiced potential jurors, which prolonged Higgins’s trial against former political aide Bruce Lehrmann.
Lehrmann pleaded not guilty to the accusation of raping Ms. Higgins in Parliament House in 2019.
