A young woman’s family has shared their disbelief after she was left paralysed after a trip to the chiropractor for a neck adjustment.
Patient Caitlin Jensen experienced cardiac arrest, a stroke, brain edoema, and a traumatic brain injury from the dissected arteries immediately after her session.
She needed to be renewed after losing her pulse for more than 10 minutes and was taken to the emergency department in a hurry.
Medical professionals stabilized Jensen, who fixed some of the tears and inserted a stent in one of the arteries.
Darlene, her mother, was concerned that she wouldn’t survive the night.
“We were talking to her, and then 30 minutes later she’s in the hospital and now in the ICU,” Jensen’s brother Caleb Johnson said.
A month before to the incident, Jensen received her chemistry and biology degree from Georgia Southern University, and she was looking forwards to the “possibilities on her horizon.”
Only able to blink her eyes, move her right foot’s toes, and faintly clasp their hands, she is still in serious condition in a hospital in Georgia, but her family cheers for every tiny improvement.
After playing the family’s favourite podcast two weeks after the injury, Darlene noticed an attempted smile from Caitlin, and she was able to force a nod when asked if she was bored.
When asked about the incident, the chiropractor Jensen saw declined, citing HIPAA, the US regulations governing protected health information.
