An eighth person lost their life as a result of the fiery crash that occurred on an interstate highway in Illinois after a vehicle travelling in the incorrect direction collided with their vehicle.
Thomas Dobosz, 32, his wife Lauren, 31, and their five children were travelling in a Chevy van on Interstate 90 near McHenry County at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Sunday when they were involved in a collision with an Acura TSX luxury car that was travelling in the wrong direction.
According to the Illinois State Police, Dobosz was on his way to Illinois.
Both of the automobiles were consumed by the fire, which claimed the lives of Lauren Dobosz as well as the children aged five, six, seven, and two 13 years old.
Jennifer Fernandez, who was 22 years old at the time, was operating an Acura.
Before crashing into the vehicle in the westbound lanes, Fernandez was driving in the incorrect way “for undetermined reasons” before the accident.
CBS News reports that Thomas was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in a critical condition; but, on Wednesday, authorities confirmed that he had passed away.
The Rolling Meadows family was reportedly travelling to Minnesota for a vacation with their four children, Emma, Lucas, Nicky, and Ella, when the incident occurred, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times and the NBC affiliate WLS-TV.
The Oriole Park Falcons, a youth football and cheerleading club that has raised over one hundred thousand dollars to assist with covering funeral expenses, was very involved with the family during this time.
