Reports have suggested that a little child was killed in the Spanish town located in the northeastern region after she was struck by a large hailstone that fell during a heavy storm.
According to Spain’s town mayor, Carme Vall, the child was with her parents when she was struck by the ice ball on Tuesday.
She passed away in the hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Following the storm, there were more than twenty persons injured.
The mayor claims that the hail was responsible for the destruction of a large number of vehicles and buildings.
She stated that some of the hailstones were as large as 11 centimetres in diameter, which is roughly equivalent to a shotput.
In video footage that was aired on Spanish media outlets, it could be seen that the hailstones bounced off of the cars parked on the street like golf balls.
It was anticipated that the region might get further storms on Wednesday.
This summer, significant heatwaves have been observed both on land and in the Mediterranean Sea.
As a result of these heatwaves, severe storms are expected to hit eastern Spain.
