After the plane had landed, the passenger who had been seen on film hitting a flight attendant in the back of the head was taken into custody and charged with the assault.
On Thursday, Alexander Tung Cuu Le was charged with interfering with a flight crew, and if he is found guilty of the accusation, he faces a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison.
Another passenger took video of a man who ran up behind another man who worked on the crew and attacked him as he walked in the opposite direction.
According to an affidavit provided by the authorities, Le grabbed another flight attendant by the shoulders and asked for coffee shortly after departure.
His directive was to wait.
When Le, 33, moved from the back of the plane to an open seat near first-class, the male flight attendant said to to him to go back to the seat that was originally assigned to him.
Instead, the affidavit states that Le took a battle position with both hands on his hips and attempted to attack one of the crew members, but he was unsuccessful.
The crew member was on his way to report the incident to the pilot when he was punched in the back of the head.
According to the report filed by the police, a group of passengers “detained” Le and shackled his wrists and legs with handcuffs that a different airline employee provided.
After completing the balance of the journey with an ice pack applied to his head, the injured flight attendant was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
