The 26-year-old woman who was in critical condition after being struck by a rollercoaster at the Royal Melbourne Show was Shylah Rodden.
Ms. Rodden was in severe condition after she stepped into a portion of the 350-meter circuit just before 6 o’clock on Sunday. She was then struck by a carriage.
She had significant face injuries, and was brought to the hospital on Sunday night.
She remained in a serious condition as of Monday afternoon.
After attempting to grab a phone, Ms. Rodden was allegedly flung into the air and “fell from roughly nine metres high,” according to Nine News.
Numerous contradictory accounts have been told about Ms. Rodden’s accident.
While some witnesses claim Ms. Rodden was forced off the ride, others claim she stepped onto the tracks.
The father of Ms. Rodden, Alan Rodden, admitted he wasn’t sure what to believe.
He said his daughter was fighting for her life and had been killed.
While WorkSafe examines the event, the CEO of the Melbourne Royal Show is refusing to make any assumptions about what may have happened to the young woman to cause her injuries.
