After thousands of people voted, Daylesford was named as the winner of the Big Rainbow contest, which was held to celebrate the achievements of regional LGBTIQA+ individuals.
The town was ahead of Hay, Katherine, and Broome, which were also considered to be potential host sites.
Tim Drylie, the mayor of the Hepburn Shire, said it was great to see the town get the opportunity to host the event.
“Daylesford is the home of the Chillout Festival, the longest running regional LGBTIQA+ festival in Australia, and home to many rainbow families,” he said.
Bradley Thomas, the chief executive of the Hepburn Shire, said that the town would benefit from hosting the event.
He noted that the rainbow represented inclusion, but it also served as a tourism drawcard for the area.
