A father from the western Sydney suburb of Penrith was one of the three division-one winners of the record-breaking $162 million Powerball jackpot.
He checked his ticket on Friday morning, but was unaware that the authorities were looking for the other ticket holder.
The father, who wished to remain unidentified, said his life had suddenly changed after he bought the winning ticket at a tobacco shop in Cranebrook.
He said he almost missed out on the chance to enter the draw, as he had rushed out to purchase a ticket before the last minute.
Sam Tannoury, a team member of the tobacco shop’s management company, said he was thrilled that his store had sold a division-one winning ticket.
He noted that this was the first time that a winning ticket had been sold in the region.
Unfortunately, the winner didn’t register his ticket online, which means that the authorities couldn’t contact him to let him know about his win.
