One of the miners who won a huge $53 million jackpot in Australia’s record-breaking $160 million Powerball draw on Thursday night said she wouldn’t resign from her job.
The group of friends from Kalgoorlie, who were all 18 years old, bought the ticket after finding a lucky nugget in the numbers.
Despite the riches that came with the jackpot, the woman said she wouldn’t be quitting her job as a miner. She noted that she knew about the massive win since the beginning of her shift.
She also said that she’s still loading trucks.
According to Peter, a 54-year-old plant operator, a $100 buy-in for the instant game turned into almost $2 million in just seconds. He said that some of his co-workers also bet with their partners, which resulted in the winnings of over $5 million.
Although he didn’t want to share his last name, Peter said that the win has greatly changed the lives of his co-workers and friends. He noted that they initially thought that they only won the second division, but they ended up splitting the winnings.
The group of friends said that they couldn’t believe that they won the division one prize.
The mayor of the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, John Bowler, said that the win was a great boost for the region.
