A woman who was killed in a horror five-vehicle crash on the Port River Expressway in Adelaide’s northwest on Tuesday night has been identified as 26-year-old actress Lisa Hoy.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 9.35 pm after reports of a major road accident.
Lisa was driving with her sister, Erica, and her boyfriend, Mike Reader, when their Toyota Prius was hit from behind. It then spun around and collided with a B-triple truck.
Lisa and Reader died at the scene, while an 18-year-old male passenger in a third vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It’s believed that the Toyota Corolla was hit from behind by a Holden Cruze as it was travelling towards Port Adelaide. The impact caused the Toyota and the other vehicles to crash into the truck.
The driver of the Cruze that hit the Toyota fled the scene before she was apprehended. The horrific crash caused debris from the other vehicles to pile up across the four lanes of the Port River Expressway.
Brenan Rundle, a witness, described the scene as “horrible.” The road was closed for several hours due to the accident.
Family and friends of Lisa paid tribute to the actress, remembering her as a beautiful person who was full of kindness and was always ready to help others.
A 38-year- old woman was charged with various offences following the tragic accident. Some of these include causing death by dangerous driving and leaving an accident scene.
Following her arrest, the woman was taken to hospital for a blood test. She was then placed under police guard to allow her to undergo a mental health assessment.
Detectives from the Major Crash Unit are still investigating the incident and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.
