Karl Stefanovic opened the Today show by addressing the elephant in the room, as co-host Ally Langdon is set to leave the program to take on a new role on A Current Affair.
The jokes continued throughout the show, with Stefanovic promising that Langdon’s last week on air would be a colourful one.
During the show, Langdon broke down in tears as she talked about her father-in-law, Mike Willesee, who passed away earlier this year.
It was announced that she would be taking over the role that Tracy Grimshaw left behind on A Current Affair.
Before the start of the show, Karl Stefanovic introduced Langdon, saying that she would be the new host of A Current Affair.
She then said that she was not sure what she would do this morning, but knew that it would be something. Stefanovic then joked that he spent the entire weekend working on her new gig, which will begin on January 30.
During the show, Langdon noted that the Today show’s production value was heavily affected by her name being associated with the program.
Stefanovic then told her that there was a big week ahead for her, and she should not leave the show.
She also said that she was feeling “bittersweet” about leaving Today after two years.
The appointment of Langdon as the new ACA replacement for Grimshaw came as a surprise, as both parties had dismissed gossip about a feud.
During the show, she played up the incident, saying that it made her feel like she was being rejected.
She also said that she was not sure if Grimshaw knew who she was, adding that she was completely overwhelmed by the situation.
