Malerato Harrison, a cleaner at Woolworths, died on the job last week. Emergency services were called to the store in the Hunter Region of NSW at around 7am on Friday after reports that a woman had been injured.
However, Ms Harrison was declared dead at the scene.
According to the police, Ms Harrison was killed after she was accidentally crushed by cleaning equipment. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Her friend, Jessika Abra, posted a tribute to Ms Harrison on Facebook, where she talked about how she had made an impact on people’s lives.
In her tribute, Ms Abra stated that she would never be able to thank her friend enough for all that she had done for her. She also thanked her for giving her so much advice.
One of her friends, Lindsay Couper, referred to Ms Harrison as the most beautiful soul.
Ms Harrison came to Newcastle from South Africa to live with her husband and two children. She was employed by a cleaning firm that was providing services at the store.
Ms Harrison was a part of a third-party company that was contracted to provide cleaning services at the store.
A spokesperson for Woolworths said that the company was deeply saddened by the incident and it is working with the NSW Police and SafeWork to assist with the investigation.
