Almost two months after she was injured in a horror ride accident, Shylah Rodden, 26, was finally able to wake up from a medically-induced coma.
She suffered multiple injuries, including broken bones in her arms, legs, and pelvis. The incident occurred on September 25 at the Royal Melbourne Show.
The ride that Rodden was riding was reportedly traveling at a speed of 70kmh. After she was rushed to the hospital, she was placed in a coma.
On November 30, the Royal Melbourne Hospital announced that she was in stable condition.
However, a member of her family noted that she was still not out of the woods. According to the Daily Mail, Rodden’s condition had reportedly started to improve on October 11.
When she was taken to the hospital, doctors noted that she had suffered a serious injury that they had not seen in a long time.
According to Rodden, she was working at a friend’s stall at the time of the accident. During her break, she and her friends decided to go on a few rides.
Investigators believe that Rodden had dropped her phone on the ride. They also believe that she went under the ride’s tracks in order to retrieve it.
The incident was caught on video, and footage showed a woman launching herself around nine meters into the air. WorkSafe, which is handling the investigation, was assisted by the local crime unit.
An investigation revealed that the ride didn’t have any technical issues. Following the incident, the ride was reopened a few days later.
A spokesperson for the Royal Melbourne Show stated that the organization’s priority was the well-being of its visitors.
In response to the incident, the Royal Melbourne Show released a statement to say that the safety procedures were followed properly.
All of the rides at the facility had passed their inspections and were in compliance with WorkSafe regulations. In October, Rodden’s father spoke about his daughter’s condition.
According to her father, Rodden was in a coma for a long time. Her injuries were described as horrific. Her pelvic, arms, legs, back, neck, and pelvis were all broken. Her brain was also damaged.
According to her father, Rodden’s doctors had said that they had not seen anything like this in a long time.
In a statement, the head of an industry safety organization noted that neither the ride’s operators nor Shylah were to blame for the accident.
