A pregnant woman and her unborn child died after she was hit in the head during a fight in a shopping center in Perth’s south.
Diane Miller, 30, was struck in the head with a concrete object during the incident that occurred at the Karawara shopping center on Tuesday night.
Her brother confirmed the tragic news on Thursday evening.
According to Malcolm Clifton, who is Miller’s brother, the entire community has lost its sense of peace.
The incident occurred after a fight broke out inside the shopping center.
During the fight, a 17-year-old boy threw a concrete object at the vehicle, which hit Miller in the head. Miller was five months pregnant.
The impact caused Miller to go into cardiac arrest. She was taken to the hospital and later placed in intensive care.
A 17-year-old boy from the nearby suburb of Kensington was charged with breach of bail and GBH.
Miller’s family told 7 News that they were devastated upon visiting their loved one in the hospital.
According to her brother, the incident has destroyed the family and left Miller’s son without his mother.
The police have described the incident as senseless and unprovoked. They have also claimed that there was an argument between Miller’s partner and a group of teenagers.
According to Inspector Baddock of the Perth District Office, the woman was a passenger in the car that was involved in the incident.
Her partner then joined in the fight. The groups involved were not known to each other. “This is, quite simply, a case of senseless violence,” he said.
The police believe that the individuals responsible for the incident were looking for trouble.
They are also appealing for witnesses to come forward and provide information about the incident.
Anyone who has dashcam footage or video of the incident that they can share with the police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
