A strong and persistent low pressure system over Western Australia’s northern inland will allow temperatures to rise over the next couple of days.
Most models predict that temperatures will reach around 30 degrees Celsius this weekend, before going up to around 45 degrees Celsius next week.
A heatwave warning has been issued for parts of Western Australia’s interior and north, including the city of Perth.
This will be the first time that the country experiences a heatwave this early in the summer season.
The hottest temperature recorded in Australia during the spring season was 44.5 degrees Celsius at the airport at the town of Wyndham on October 24, 2022.
The average maximum temperature during the spring season in Australia was 27.6 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest since 2011.
Based on current forecasts, it’s not expected that the country will experience a temperature of 45 degrees Celsius until December 4.
In 2019, the highest recorded temperature in Australia during the month of December was 49.9 degrees Celsius at the remote town of Attunga.
It’s unlikely that this record will be broken during the current heatwave.
