A woman died after a head-on collision between a cattle truck and an SUV in regional NSW.
The crash happened on the Gwydir Highway at Glen Innes at around 11.15am on Thursday.
The female driver of the SUV was reportedly in her 40s, and a baby was reportedly inside the vehicle.
Initially, it was reported that a double fatality had occurred, but police later noted that the driver died instantly.
A baby was freed from the wreckage and was taken to the Newcastle Hospital as a precautionary measure.
The truck driver, who was treated for minor injuries, was also taken to John Hunter Hospital to undergo mandatory testing.
The woman’s identity is not yet known. Several cows died due to the crash, and a number had to be euthanized by the police.
Acting Inspector Clint Williams of the NSW Police said first responders were reportedly greeted with a distressing scene.
