According to reports, the former political aide received a settlement from the Commonwealth after she planned to sue for alleged sexual harassment.
Bruce Lehrmann was accused of rape last month. His case was thrown out due to misconduct by the jurors. A retrial was then scrapped after prosecutors noted that the risk of Ms Higgins’ mental health being affected by the incident was too great.
After receiving an overwhelming amount of support from her followers, Higgins posted a series of photos on Instagram to thank them. She said she was overwhelmed by the messages of solidarity.
She also thanked the staff members of a women’s leadership organization for sorting each letter by hand. She noted that she would like to receive a response in early 2019. After graduating from university with a double degree, Ms Higgins revealed that she would be working in a new field.
In a statement, Ms Higgins said that she would be attending the University of Sydney for a Master of Business administration. On Wednesday, the Chief Minister of the ACT and Shane Rattenbury announced that an independent investigation would be conducted into the trial of Bruce Lehrmann.
Shortly after the announcement, Mr. Lehrmann’s legal team released a statement on his behalf. He noted that he welcomed the investigation and hoped it would be thorough.
