A distraught family in Perth lost their three-year old son after the body of Isaac Powell was found in their next-door neighbor’s backyard pool.
The child was reportedly a “cute” and “playful” kid, and he spent several days in hospital before his parents decided to turn off his life support.
Stephen Powell, the boy’s father, said that the family might not be able to return to their home, which was built for them.
He noted that Isaac loved playing in the pool and would often run away from his room.
He said that he wasn’t worried when his wife called to tell him that Isaac was missing.
According to the family, Isaac likely slipped into the neighbor’s backyard pool through a gap in the fence.
It’s not clear if the gate was closed or opened at the time of the incident.
According to Powell, the family moved into their Spyglass Ave home two days before Christmas.
They were not aware that there were missing fence panels behind their neighbor’s shed. Zahra, along with the other residents of the neighborhood, searched for over 15 minutes before the body of Isaac was found.
The boy’s mother performed CPR on her son until the police arrived.
He was then taken to the hospital, where he was placed on a life support machine.
Bakri has urged other families to ensure that their pools and homes are properly secured.
