Starting January 11, McDonald’s will begin serving a new potato-based item on its menu. However, the name of the product has already caused a debate.
While some customers in Victoria think the new item is a potato cake, others in South Australia claim it’s a potato fritter.
Queenslanders and NSW residents agree that the deep-fried potato slice is a potato scallop.
The dish, which is coated in a crunchy tempura batter, has received over 4,000 comments on a post shared by foodie Mumma Ren on Facebook.
Some customers in South Australia don’t want to call the new item a potato scallop.
They noted that no one would know what they’re talking about. Others said that if they were from South Australia, they’d call it a “potato fritter.”
Regardless of the name, everyone agreed that the dish is delicious.
Some customers noted that they would like to try the dish on a Big Mac.
According to reports, the potato scallops will be priced at 2 for 4. In addition, the fast-food giant is also adding other items to its summer menu, such as the McSpicy, Aussie Angus, and Hokey-Pokey Thickshake.
Tim Kenward, the marketing director of McDonald’s in Australia, said that the company’s new offerings will give customers another reason to join their friends for a summer road trip.
