Charges against a woman who was severely injured when a rollercoaster crashed at the Melbourne Royal Show were withdrawn on Wednesday. Shylah Rodden had faced two theft-related offenses.
She was accused of stealing a cellphone worth around $1,000 on August 5, 2021. The police then withdrew the charges against her.
Rodden, 26, is in a serious condition in a hospital after she was reportedly hit by a tram while she was trying to retrieve her phone on September 24.
According to witnesses, Rodden was thrown from the ride before she fell to the ground. She had been in a medically-induced coma for several weeks.
According to a hospital spokesperson, she has since been brought out of the coma and is now in a serious condition.
Despite the progress that Rodden has made, she still has a long way to go in recovering.
Her father, Alan Rodden, said that her injuries were so severe that doctors were shocked by them.
A fundraising campaign has been established to help pay for her ongoing medical expenses. Her accident came just months after her brother died.
Her family has also been the target of online trolls.
Two comedians from the US used their podcast to make inappropriate jokes at Rodden’s expense.
