Chris Dimopoulos, the owner of a fish and chip shop in Australia, criticized McDonald’s for allegedly stealing potatoes from struggling businesses in the country.
He said the fast food giant was taking advantage of a shortage to introduce its new potato scallop dish.
According to Dimopoulos, who appeared on 7 News, he was not able to explain how fast food giant McDonald’s could acquire so much potatoes in such a short time, considering how small businesses were struggling.
He also called the actions of the company “bulls**t.”

On TikTok, he noted that there were over 900 McDonald’s stores in Australia.
He said that if each of the company’s stores sold one potato cake every ten customers, it would sell around 170,000 cakes a day.
Dimopoulos said that the industry had just started to recover from the shortages of other food items, such as lettuce and dim sum.
According to him, many fish shops in Australia were struggling to find potatoes, chips, and potato cakes.
He noted that McDonald’s was allegedly stealing the same potatoes that they use for their chips.
If the company’s plan to sell 170,000 cakes per day were to occur, it would leave no potatoes for every single shop in the country.
A spokesperson for McDonald’s said that the company’s new potato scallop dish would only be on the menu during the summer season.
