A senior officer of the Victoria Police was found dead at a station in the inner south of Melbourne on Friday night.
The incident, which happened at around 7:30 pm, was confirmed by the police.
A spokesperson for the force said that the sergeant was not on duty at the time of the incident.
The body of the officer, who was identified as a senior sergeant, was found at the station shortly before 7:30 pm.
His death is not being considered suspicious. The police community has been in shock following the incident.
The association of police officers in Victoria also shared their condolences.
“We can confirm reports of a non-operational incident that occurred at the Moorabbin police station yesterday afternoon where a police member has sadly passed away,” social media update said.
“Our thoughts are with the family and colleagues of the deceased member who will be supported by The Police Association and Victoria Police.”
