A man was arrested following the death of a woman in an apartment in Colless Street, in the city of Penrith, on Monday afternoon.
The victim, who was identified as 27-year-old Dayna Isaac, was reportedly in a relationship with 32-year-old Paul Sultana for a couple of months prior to her death.
The body was discovered by Sultana’s mother, who also knew Ms Isaac.
The woman who found the body reported the incident to the police. It is believed that Ms. Isaac was assaulted before her body was discovered.
Her burnt-out vehicle was also found in Castlereagh. After going to the apartment, officers from the Nepean Police Area Command discovered the body inside the unit.
Specialist forensic officers are examining the crime scene. The homicide squad has been called in to assist with the investigation into the death of the woman.
Initial inquiries suggest that there may have been another person in the apartment before the woman who reported the incident arrived.
The man was apprehended at a house in Cranebrook, in Sydney’s west, by officers from the TOU of NSW Police.
He was taken to the local police station, and inquiries are ongoing.
During a press conference held at St Mary’s Police Station, Carlene Mahoney, a detective chief inspector, confirmed that a person of interest was found at the man’s home address.
