It has been revealed that the children and wife of 30-year-old Corey Selby were at the scene of his fatal shooting by NSW police officers outside a police station at Tenterfield.
The incident is currently being investigated by the police. According to the officers, they were threatened with an allegedly loaded gun. Shortly after the incident, an ambulance arrived on the scene.
Ron Oakley, a witness, said he heard a loud bang on the lawn outside the police station in Tenterfield, which he described as a single clap of thunder.
The incident happened after officers were reportedly threatened by a floor layer. According to Steve Egginton, the police had no choice but to shoot the man.
At the end of the day, people need to defend themselves. The police were called to the Margaret Street home of the 48-year-old man, who was living with his wife and their two children, at around 5 pm.
According to his neighbors, a child saw him outside with a gun and alerted the authorities. An unidentified witness said that he was very agitated and armed.
The woman who called the police said that she then called the police to ask for backup.
It’s also been reported that his wife, who was at the police station along with their two children, was with them when the incident occurred.
The mayor of the town of Tenterfield, Bronwyn Petrie, said that the situation could have been much worse if the officers had not shot the man.
Stephen Egginton, the Superintendent of the local police force, said that the officers were devastated by the incident.
He also said that the community was in a state of shock and that the police were not used to dealing with people like this. He noted that the officers had only limited interactions with the suspect in the past.
He would not provide details about the nature of the incident or the shots that were fired.
However, he said that the details will be included in the investigation to establish the man’s mental state at that time.
Forensic specialists also visited the police station in the town of Tentarfield on Friday night. A number of counselors were also brought in to help the community.
An internal investigation has been carried out by the local police force. The investigation will be handled by the LEIC.
