A tram has fatally struck a 99-year old woman in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
The incident occurred at Mount Alexander Road and Lincoln Road in Essendon.
The woman was crossing the road at about 1.20pm when the accident happened.
A woman from Essendon North was taken to hospital with serious injuries. She later died.
The intersection where the accident occurred has been criticized by a former mayor.
According to police, the woman was riding a mobility scooter when she was hit by the tram at Mount Alexander Road in Essendon.

The tram and its passengers were not injured, and highway patrol officers are looking into the incident to speak with the passengers who left the tram before the cops arrived.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
