Arne Espeel, a goalkeeper for the Winkel Sport B team, collapsed and died while playing against Westrozbeke in West Brabant, Belgium, on Saturday.
He was 25 years old. After saving a penalty during the second half, his team was leading 2-1.
According to reports in Belgium, Espeel collapsed after saving a penalty.
Emergency services attended to him on the field, but he soon died.
The incident occurred during a football match that was being played at the team’s home ground in the West Flanders province.
In a statement, the club noted that it was in deep mourning following the sudden death of its goalkeeper Arne Espeel.
The organization also offered its condolences to his family and friends.
An autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of his death.
