A powerful earthquake hit central Turkey on Saturday, just days after a quake near the border with Syria.
The 5.2 magnitude tremor hit the region, and it affected areas such as Aksaray and Emirgazi.
As the two countries worked to rebuild homes damaged by the earthquake on February 6, which killed over 50,000 people, another tremor hit the region.
Many of those who lost their homes are still living in makeshift shelters.
One of these is a nursing student from Syria who lives in a roadside settlement near Antakya.
She said that she and her family took shelter in a garden after their houses were destroyed.
To build their shelters, the residents used various materials such as plastic sheets, blankets, and bricks from damaged buildings. However, they have not received a single tent.
They also applied to set up a tent camp, but the authorities said the nearby ones were full.
Officials in Turkey said that 335,000 tents had been set up in the region, and over 530,000 people were evacuated.
The death toll from the previous quake and the new has increased to 50,000. It’s not clear if anyone died during the latest earthquake.
According to the Daily Mail, the number of people who have died due to the two earthquakes has risen to 50,000.
A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 hit Syria and Turkey on Monday.
It reportedly caused more buildings to collapse.
Three people reportedly died as a result of the quake.
