In a statement, Belinda Russell said she would no longer be presenting Weekend Today.
She also posted a video of her time on the program on Instagram, but provided no other details about her departure.
Russell thanked her viewers for their support and said she was looking forward to her future opportunities at Nine, noting that she had enjoyed her time at the program.
Her Today colleagues also expressed their support, with David Campbell posting a series of love messages for her. It’s not yet clear if her exit was her own choice or if the Today bosses decided to let her go.
A spokesperson for Nine said that Russell would continue working for the network and would be able to work across its various news platforms.
She was also called in to replace Sylvia Jeffreys on Today Extra. Jeffreys was reportedly unavailable to present the program due to her sick children.
Since 2007, Russell has been a part of Nine’s news division.
She most recently appeared on Weekend Today on February 26, but didn’t make any mention of her impending departure.
She was replaced by news anchor and presenter Jayne Azzopardi over the weekend.
Despite missing out on the program on Saturday, she was still able to present the Today weather bulletin.
