Anthony Albanese, Australia’s Prime Minister, was included in the Time Magazine’s list of influential individuals of 2023.
He was joined by Doja Cat, Lionel Messi, and Beyoncé. The annual list is curated by the magazine’s editors.
In a piece about Mr. Albanese, Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, referred to him as an inspiration and a symbol of hope.
The article also praised his efforts in addressing the concerns of Australia’s Indigenous people.
The article talks about Mr. Albanese’s background as a public housing resident and his belief in the importance of democracy.
Trudeau also noted that in an increasingly uncertain world, Mr. Albanese chooses the path of opportunity and hope instead of fear.
In his victory speech after the Labor Party won the 2022 election, he said he wanted to bring the people of Australia together.
The other 19 individuals featured in the PM category include the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelensky, Fumio Kishida, the Japanese Prime Minister, Joe Biden, and Evan Gershkovich, a journalist for the Wall Street Journal.
King Charles was also recognized as an icon, while Ali Wong, a comedian, was named as an artist. Tesla’s Elon Musk, Bella Hadid, and Lyon were also pioneers.
It is the third time that an Australian Prime Minister has been featured on the list of influential individuals by Time Magazine.
In 2008, Kevin Rudd was named as the country’s Prime Minister, while John Howard was the Prime Minister in 1999.
