David Koch, the long-time co-host of Australia’s popular breakfast show, “Sunrise,” announced on Monday that he will retire from the show after 21 years.
He choked up as he told his co-host Nat Barr about his decision.
After two decades of winning multiple awards in the breakfast television ratings competition, David said it’s time for him to retire.
He noted that he doesn’t want to be a “list clogger.” He said that he started hosting the show before the rise of social media and smartphones.
He said he is incredibly proud of what the “Sunrise” team has achieved over the last two decades.
He also thanked his co-hosts, saying they have been “amazing” and he will miss working with them.
He said he will miss his co-hosts and the viewers of “Sunrise.”
He thanked them for their support over the years and said it has been an absolute joy to spend time with them.
In a statement released by Channel Seven, he said he decided it was time to retire after 21 years.
Although he will miss his job, David said that it is time for him to spend more time with his family and his wife Libby.
He noted that he will still be able to keep up with his finance-related interests. He will also continue to appear on “Sunrise” as a regular guest.
After two decades of being the most-watched television program in Australia, David said it was a great moment to retire.
He thanked his co-hosts and the viewers of “Sunrise.”
He will officially step down from his position on the show next Friday.
