A man was charged after a woman was taken to a hospital with severe burns to almost 40% of her body following an alleged attack.
The incident occurred in Mount Helena, which is about 35 kilometers away from Perth’s CBD.
At around 6.25 pm on Friday, the police responded to reports of a vehicle on fire near Mill End and Honey St.
A car exploded in Perth’s outer-eastern suburb, and then multiple explosions were heard nearby.
The police found two people suffering from burns after a blue Holden Commodore caught on fire.
According to reports, a woman who was around 100 meters away from the incident ran away screaming and burning before neighbours came to her aid.
The woman, who is 33 years old, was immediately transported to the Fiona Stanley Hospital by the RAC Rescue Helicopter.
Her ex-husband, who is 42 years old and separated, was also taken to the facility by the St John Ambulance.
According to the WA Police, the man was charged with one count of aggravated bodily harm following his release from hospital.
He was arrested shortly after he was released. His former spouse’s ex-husband, on the other hand, suffered less severe burns and was also taken into custody as the investigation continues.
On Saturday, Glen Beros, the police inspector of WA, said that the incident was tragic.
He noted that the woman would require long-term treatment due to the severe burns she suffered.
The incident, which is still in its early stages, is being investigated by the police due to a family dispute.
