In a video posted on social media, Olympic gold medalist Catherine Freeman urged the public to support the Yes campaign in the upcoming referendum.
She noted that the country urgently needs change.
According to Freeman, the country is experiencing a sense of unity as the referendum draws closer.
She noted that it’s the ideal time for people to come together and work on a common cause.
In her video, Freeman said that she couldn’t recall a time when the country felt so urgent about change.
She noted that the people of Australia have the chance to participate in a historic moment that will bring people together.
All of us can be a part of this historic moment.
We can show our support for the people of Australia and recognize the indigenous peoples in the constitution for the first time.
We can also ensure that all children receive equal opportunities in life.
I am asking all of Australia to join me in supporting the Yes campaign and vote on October 14.
The objective of the referendum is to recognize the indigenous peoples of the country for the first time in the constitution.
