For John Stamos, the passing of his friend Matthew Perry will always be felt. The actor said that Perry, who was 54 when he died, publicly encouraged him to keep working.
Stamos, who starred in the popular TV show “Full House,” vividly recalls his desire to quit the industry after his “Friends” episode went badly.
Before “Friends,” Stamos and Perry were friends. The actor noted that they would hang out a lot after he guest-starred on the show as Zach, a sperm donor for Monica and Chandler. The episode, which aired in 2003, was appropriately titled “The One With the Donor.”
Although he was perfectly cast as the role of Chandler Bing opposite Perry’s character, Stamos was devastated by the reaction of the fans.
He said that Perry warned him before he even started filming the scene, telling him that the audience would be loud.
After walking into the building, Stamos was embarrassed. He later said that he considered quitting the industry.
He said that Perry encouraged him to keep working and that the audience members didn’t initially recognize him due to his good looks.
Perry died due to an apparent drowning in his home in Los Angeles. He was 54 years old. His death was surrounded by tributes from his colleagues, including former “Friends” co-stars.
The cast of the show also paid tribute to Perry. He had battled with substance abuse for years and nearly died in 2018.
In his 2022 memoir, “Friends, Love, and the Big Terrible Thing,” Stamos opened up about his struggles with substance abuse and other issues.
The actor also discussed his friendship with Perry in a recent Instagram post. According to the post, Stamos was in the middle of signing a book when he learned about Perry’s death.
A fan who was waiting in line for Stamos’ book signing in Atlanta wrote a message to the actor, saying that he was devastated by the news.
Despite his feelings for Perry, he still managed to smile and carry on with his book signing.
In his new memoir, Stamos opened up about his past problems, including his affair with a former babysitter and his disdain for Rebecca Romijn, his ex-wife.
He also revealed that he once caught a former girlfriend of Tony Danza having sex with him.
