The NSW SES is urging residents to get ready for severe storms that may hit the state during Christmas week.
The agency also warned drivers to avoid driving through flood waters, and the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the state.
These storms are expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds.
The SES warned residents in Sydney and the South Coast, as well as the Northern Rivers, Illawarra, and Mid-North Coast regions, about the possibility of experiencing flash flooding due to the deepening inland trough.
Deb Platz, the agency’s deputy commissioner, noted that the SES was expecting up to a hundred millimetres of rainfall in some parts of the state on Sunday.
The agency noted that the most important thing that residents should do is to avoid driving through flood water.
They should also prepare their homes and cars by removing loose items from their yards and keeping them under cover.
Residents should additionally keep up with the latest warnings from the weather agencies through the SES’ social media and app platforms.
According to Ms. Platz, the SES crews were prepared to respond to the situation over the holiday season.
Volunteers would be available to help those in need of assistance with flood or storm damage.
The agency also keeps track of the weather conditions and is ready to deploy resources if needed.
