Laura Lynch, a founding member of the Grammy-winning country music group the Dixie Chicks, died in a car crash on Friday.
According to her cousin, the 65-year-old musician was traveling from El Paso, Texas to Dell City, when the tragic incident occurred.
According to the authorities, a car traveling in the opposite direction collided with Lynch’s vehicle as she was traveling on a two-way highway. The impact from the collision killed her instantly.
While the other driver of the car was taken to a hospital for treatment, Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene.
She is survived by her husband and daughter. In 1989, she, along with fellow musicians Emily Erwin, Robin Lynn Macy, and Martie Erwin, formed the Dixie Chicks.
The group, which was officially named as The Chicks in 2020, is now known as The Chicks.
Before she became the group’s lead vocalist, Lynch played the upright bass in the band.
Their first album, “Thank Heavens for Dale,” did not produce any hits. Their second album, “Little Ol’ Cowgirl,” came out in 1992, and one of its songs received radio play.
Their third album, “Shouldn’t a told You That,” did not do well commercially.
The album was the last one that Lynch contributed to before she left the band in 1995. She left the group in 1995 to focus on her personal issues. Natalie Maines took over as the band’s lead singer.
The other members of the band, namely Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire, remained with the group.
The band’s third album, “Wide Open Spaces,” came out in 1998. It was followed by “Fly” in 1999, and “Home” in 2002.
These albums were able to achieve multi-platinum sales in various countries, including Australia, Canada, and the US.
They also released several singles, such as “You Were Mine,” “Cowboy Take Me Away,” and “Without You.”
In 2003, during a concert in London, Maines stated that the band did not support the invasion of Iraq and was ashamed of how George Bush was from Texas.
Her statements caused a boycott in the US and a rebuke from the band’s fans. After a hiatus of several years, the group released the hit song “Not Ready to Make Nice.”
