A fly-in-fly-out truck driver from Western Australia talks about what it’s like to work in the mines.
She describes waking up at 4 in the morning and going on a 12-hour shift in the heat.
Ashlea, who earns around $120,000 annually, has been documenting her life in the remote region.
Ashlea works a 14-day shift and gets 14 days off. She divides her time between the city of Perth and the Pilbara mines.
In her TikTok video, she said that she has a great life and that she takes advantage of her time off to do various activities. She also noted that she usually gets two weeks off each month.
She said that she puts a lot of effort into being super cool. She enjoys going to various events, traveling, and eating out a lot.
She attributes her success to a few factors. One of these is her lack of children.
Since she’s single, she doesn’t have a partner to worry about. She also has no debt, and she recently sold her investment property.
Her bank account is currently looking very nice. When asked how much she makes as a truck driver, Ashlea noted that she makes around $120,000 annually.
As companies pay differently, Ashlea said that this is what she got. When she started working at the mines, she was initially paid around $36.50 an hour. After a few months, her hourly pay rate increased to $43.50.
For her first year as a truck driver, Ashlea was able to earn around $95,000 annually. It’s a pretty cool amount for a new truck driver.
If she had stayed at the mine as an experienced driver, she would have been paid around $46.50 an hour. After her first year, she decided to work with a different contractor. She now works at a rate of $51.50 per hour.
According to her, she is fairly satisfied with her current pay rate.
She noted that her contractor pays her a monthly bonus, and she also receives a monthly payment of around $2,000.
With her bonuses, she could end up earning around $115,000 annually.
Although she admitted that her pay rate was s***, Ashlea noted that working in the mines gave her an opportunity to gain valuable experience.
She had been calling various construction companies in an effort to secure a better position.
