A celebrity chef has been criticized for his expensive fish and chips at a restaurant during the global financial crisis.
The critic who criticized Tom Kerridge’s meal online called his dish “d***.” Kerridge responded furiously on his social media accounts.
One critic called the haddock dish at Kerridge’s restaurant in London’s Harrods “a fried tea towel.”
Three months ago, the celebrity chef was criticized after he charged customers $71 for his fish and chips. Despite the controversy surrounding his expensive dish, Kerridge insisted that his fish and chips are a crowd pleaser and are popular with customers.
He noted that there’s nothing better than a good chippy tea and fish sandwich.
Kerridge, who has nine restaurants in the UK, took issue with the critic who labeled his food as cheap on social networking sites. The three-Michelin-starred chef also told the critic to “cheer up” and use a better word.
His response was widely criticized, with many people labeling his food as unaffordable even for the average Joe.
They noted that they could get a similar meal for a third of the price at a fish and chip shop.
Some of the people who tried the dish defended the chef, with one saying that it was delicious. In Australia, high-priced meals have been criticized due to the rising costs of food.
A Sydney restaurant defended its decision to charge $38 for a salad and chicken schnitty last year.
Pierre Moio, the restaurant’s manager, said that it’s up to the restaurant owners to ensure that their customers have a good experience. However, he noted that customers have to realize that the cost of food eventually becomes a burden.
