Large portions of Western Australia, South Australia, NSW, and New South Wales have been issued with a severe heatwave warning.
Heatwaves with low-intensity intensity are expected to affect parts of South Australia and the Northern Territory from Wednesday, January 23 to Thursday, January 25.
In the North West, extreme heat conditions are predicted to occur on Wednesday, January 23.
A heatwave warning for the Mid-North District has been ‘canceled.’
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, temperatures will remain high over the weekend, with temperatures in Birdsville expected to reach 47 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 46 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. In NSW, the heatwave conditions are expected to continue.
In the north, Moree and other areas in the region could experience temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius by the end of this week.
In Western Australia, the heatwave conditions have already been intense, with some parts of the Pilbara experiencing temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
Although the heatwave is set to ease later in the week, additional high temperatures are expected to occur in the Gascoyne and Pilbara regions.
According to the bureau, prolonged exposure to high temperatures can be dangerous for people, especially those who are vulnerable, such as pregnant women and babies, and those with medical conditions.
To prevent heat-related illnesses, the agency suggests staying inside and avoiding exposure to high temperatures.
To keep the heat inside your home, close your windows and keep curtains, blinds, and awnings open during the early morning. If possible, use air-conditioning units to cool your home.
