Although Ash Barty has announced that she will be making a comeback, she won’t be playing tennis.
The former professional player will be participating in a pro-am tournament in New Zealand. In 2022, she shocked the world by announcing that she was quitting tennis.
Despite her professional tennis career, Barty still faced questions about returning to the court.
She married a professional golf player named Garry Kissick last year. She also has a 4-handicap and enjoys playing golf.
Barty was able to watch the New Zealand Open tennis tournament last year. She expressed her excitement about being able to participate in the 2024 pro-am event, but she noted that she would need to start practicing to get ready for the event.
I have always been passionate about playing golf, and I am very fortunate to be able participate in events such as the New Zealand Open. The first shot that I hit in front of the spectators will likely be nerve-wracking. Hopefully, things will settle down once the ball hits the green.
She added that she would like to make the cut in the pro-am event. Also, Ricky Ponting, an Australian cricket legend, is confirmed to start the tournament on February 29. Barty participated in a golf tournament in New Jersey with other prominent athletes such as Michael Phelps, Harry Kane, and Ponting.
The Ash Barty Foundation was established last week to inspire young people and communities. Barty said that she was thrilled to be able to launch the organization with her team. The main objective of the foundation is to provide young people with an opportunity to participate in sports and education.
