Ujvala Vemuru, a medical student, died while she was hiking with her friends in Australia’s Lamington National Park on Saturday.
She was 20 meters from a waterfall when she fell. She was taking photos at the area when she accidentally dropped her tripod.
When she tried to retrieve the tripod, she fell about 10 meters down a slope.
She then fell into a waterhole, and despite the efforts of her friends and other off-duty medical professionals, she died.
It took emergency services personnel about six hours to recover her body.
A spokesperson for the Fire and Emergency Services said that multiple responders, including firefighters and paramedics, were sent to the scene.
She graduated Medicine from Bond University in Gold Coast last year and was currently residing in Queensland.
Vemuru’s family lives in WA, and she was regarded as one of the state’s brightest young minds in her high school years.
