A Reddit user noted that a recently renovated Coles in Perth no longer has the weighted scales in its self-serve check-out area.

This item was used to measure the weight of the items that were placed in one’s bag.

The user noted that this method prevents people from continuing with the shopping process until all of the items have been properly scanned.

She said that she had not seen this before, and the store was obviously very fancy.

A spokesperson for the supermarket said that the technology was referred to as “skip scan”.

The spokesperson noted that although most of the customers do the right things, a small number of individuals still don’t.

To address this issue, the company has various security measures in place, such as CCTV, electronic article monitoring, and EAS.

In some stores, new technology will allow them to detect if there are indeed errors in scans.

The spokesperson noted that this technology eliminates the need for people to carry out weighted interventions.

Social media users had mixed reactions to the photo. One of them said that the scales were a pain in the a** because of how a toddler can rest his or her hands on them.

Another user said that they prefer the ones that are weight-based.

With the help of the cameras, I can now avoid getting stuck in the queue and shop elsewhere first. But the damn things still remain.
