Since a man was charged with killing Samantha Murphy a month ago, the police have intensified their search efforts for her remains.
On Thursday, the police announced that a major search will be carried out at an area near Ballarat.
The operation, which is expected to focus on an area that has been identified by intelligence, will be carried out in the Enfield State Park.
Despite the number of people who have assisted in the search operations, the police have asked the public to refrain from going to the park.
It’s about 20 kilometers away from where Murphy went missing after leaving her home to run. The area where the search will be carried out is also patrolled by officers from various agencies. Some of these include the local police force, the search and rescue unit, and the dog squad.
The Murphy family was informed about the operation. The renewed search comes after unsuccessful searches in the Canadian State forest in the past few months.
On February 4, this year, Murphy left her home in Eureka Street to go running.
Patrick Orren Stephenson, a 22-year-old tradesman, was charged with murder in March. He was the son of Orren, who played for the Richmond and Geelong football clubs from 2012 to 2014. On Thursday, a large-scale search was carried out, which Det. Mark Hatt described as an extensive operation.
In a statement, the police noted that they are committed to doing everything in their power to bring Murphy back to her family. This year has been very tragic for the residents of Ballarat, with several disasters taking place in the city. One of these is the mine collapse that killed Kurt Hourigan.
Hannah McGuire, 23, was found dead in Scarsdale on April 5. On Friday, the residents of Ballarat plan to hold a rally in the city’s center in order to raise awareness about the issue of violence against women. According to a description posted on social media, the event will be held in response to the lack of safety for women in the area.
