Ian Parmenter, a well-known Australian television personality and chef, died over the weekend.
His death was confirmed by his friends, according to ABC News.
He became a national figure during the 1990s after he hosted the ABC’s Consuming Passions, which ran for 450 episodes from 1992 to 2001.
Consuming Passions was a resounding success, and it was shown in 19 different countries.
In 2011, Parmenter was given the Order of Australia for his services to the tourism and food industries. Before moving to Australia, he worked as a journalist in London.
He began working for the ABC in Perth in 1974. He later became qualified as a television producer.
According to his former colleague, Verity James, Parmenter was an entertainer who also had an introspective side.
He also directed various television programs during the 80s and 90s. Some of his favorite bits included taking a swipe at world leaders.
Although he was known for his flamboyant personality, he was also very opinionated. Consuming Passions was filmed at his home in Fremantle.
During the time of Consuming Passions’ production, Parmenter purchased a cottage near Margaret River.
He said that the cottage helped develop the recipes for the program. He also noted that he never worked in areas that involved high-speed food processing.
After moving to Margaret River in 1999, Parmenter became a prominent figure in the region’s food and wine industry.
He continued to be associated with the ABC even after Consuming Passions ended. In addition to his television career, Parmenter also enjoyed success with a string of cookbooks.
