In recent weeks, the price of a popular fruit has gone up significantly, with some consumers reporting seeing it costing as much as $9 for a 125g pack.
A shopper from Woolworths claimed that a pack of blueberries was selling for around $8 at a Metro Sydney CBD store, while another claimed that it cost $9 at a Coles branch in NSW.
On the Woolworths website, the price of a pack of blueberries is currently at $7.90, while the same product is available at Coles for $7.50.
According to the two retailers, the price hike is due to the availability of blueberries in Australia, which is not seasonable.
However, many consumers have shared their anger on social media, claiming that the price of the fruit was as low as $2.50 a punnet a few months ago.
One of the users who shared their anger on Facebook claimed that they noticed the price of the fruit rising after visiting Kerang Woolies.
According to them, the price of the fruit came from New Zealand.
Another user stated that this was the reason why they go to the markets to buy fresh vegetables and fruit.
According to one of the users, the price of a kilo of blueberries is about $60.
Even though raspberries are also summer fruits, they cost around $4 a punnet.
Others noted that the price spike was due to the fact that blueberries aren’t in season yet.
When asked about the price of the fruit, one user noted that it’s not in season yet.
They advised buying it when it’s in season to get a good bargain.
