A teenage boy died after he was attacked by a crocodile in a region of far north Queensland, Australia.
The incident occurred in the Torres Strait near Saibai Island.
It had been reported that the teenager and another boy, who were reportedly 13, got into trouble while trying to go to shore after their boat’s engine failed.
According to Greg Giles, a senior police officer, the boys were not able to find an alternative way to get to the shore due to their limited options.
The two went into the water about 500 meters from the shore.
When the other boy, who was reportedly 13 years old, did not see his friend, he notified his family.
A search and rescue operation was then carried out.
The boy who disappeared was reportedly very close to his friend during the incident.
His body was discovered in the mangroves of Saibai Island at around 4 pm on Thursday.
An expert noted that the injuries sustained by the victim were consistent with a large crocodile.
The area where the incident occurred is known as crocodile country.
According to Booth, they are still trying to identify the crocodile. The community has reportedly stated that it should be removed.
